Saint Louis Metro Link

Metro Link is a system I have used quite often. My oldest son, a Major in the U.S. Air Force, lives in Swansea Illinois, which is a stop on the Metro Link (ML), and works at Scott Air Force Base, another stop on the ML. I have taken the ML from Swansea to Saint Louis, Missouri many times. Most of those times I have gone to Union Station which is the former main Saint Louis train station which has now been converted into a large shopping mall and hotel area. Union station was built in the 1890’s and closed as a train station in 1978. Besides being a beautiful shopping mall there is also a small train museum in it.

Metro Link www.metrostlouis.org is the Saint Louis region’s light rail system and has two branches. The Lambert Branch operates between Lambert Airport Main and Shiloh-Scott. The Shrewsbury Branch operates between Shrewsbury-Lansdowne I-44 and Emerson Park. The entire light rail system operates over 46 miles in Saint Louis County, Saint Louis City, Missouri, and Saint Clair County, Illinois. Each train consists of two vehicles and seats 144 passengers.

The first train departs Monday thru Friday, Lambert Airport, eastbound at 4:32 A.M. and departs Shiloh-Scott westbound at 4:17A.M. The Shrewsbury - Lansdowne branch departs Shrewsbury eastbound at 4:54 A.M. and departs Emerson Part westbound at 4:52 A.M.

The last train departs Monday thru Friday, Lambert Airport, eastbound at 12:08 A.M. and departs Shiloh-Scott westbound at 11:33 P.M. The Shrewsbury - Lansdowne departs Shrewsbury at 12:33 A.M. westbound.

The first train on Saturday and Sunday departs Lambert Airport, eastbound at 5:03 A.M. and departs Shiloh-Scott westbound at 4:58 A.M. The Shrewsbury - Lansdowne branch departs Shrewsbury eastbound at 5:17 A.M. and departs Emerson Part westbound at 4:26 A.M.

The last train departs Saturday and Sunday, Lambert Airport eastbound at  11:38 P.M. and departs Shiloh -Scott westbound at 11:33 P.M. The Shrewsbury - Lansdowne branch departs Shrewsbury eastbound at 11:22 P.M. and departs Emerson Park at 11:48 P.M.

All Metro Link stations have ticket vending machines and are located bear the station platform. You must have a validated ticket to ride the train. There is a ride free downtown zone where you can ride free from 11:30 A.M. to 1:30 P.M. from Union Station and Arch-Laclede’s Landing stations. The Metro Link station is only a half a block away from Union Station and about two blocks away from the current AMTRAK http://amtrak.com Station. The current AMTRAK station is considerably smaller than Union Station, there really is no comparison.
